Waters Towns take you back to an earlier time in China, before the rush to modernize started sweeping over the country. Zhouzhuang, (1.5 hours from Shanghai) is a fantastic window into what traditional Chinese life looked like with numberous well-preserved ancient residences. A ferry boat ride is a must, and the absolute best way to experience the 1,000 households still there from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911).

Shanghai is home to some of the world’s best shopping, that ranges from traditional open air markets to truly luxury, high-end experiences.
